International Research Group on Wood Protection Location: Johannesburg, South Africa
Date: 29 April to 3 May 2018

Welcome to the website of the International Research Group on Wood Protection, commonly known as the IRG.

The IRG membership is a structured group of like-minded scientists and technologists focused on generating knowledge of the science of wood deterioration, and novel solutions to provide sustainably and environmentally responsible products for the protection of wood-based materials.

The primary function of the IRG is to provide opportunities for the exchange of ideas and information in an informal atmosphere, unencumbered by refereeing of papers or other pre-conditions. The primary vehicle is the annual meeting usually held in May of each year with global locations chosen as providing optimal opportunities for interactions between attendees and in settings that are both interesting and economically viable for our diverse attendance from around the world.

Each year 100 to 190 papers are presented and published, with all papers being available free to members and sponsors in electronic format through our searchable database. Since our inception in 1969 nearly 5,000 IRG papers have been published and all are available online or through the IRG Compendium. Non-members of the IRG are able to search the online database and purchase any paper for download through the website.

Membership and sponsorship is open to all interested persons and organizations. The executive direction of the activities of the IRG is carried out through a number of committees made up of members and sponsors representatives. The IRG Secretariat is based in Stockholm, Sweden.

Water Africa & West Africa Building and Construction Exhibition and Seminars Following a tremendously successful event in Accra, Ghana in June this year, Water Africa & West Africa Building and Construction 2018 will be hosted by the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra from 13-15 June 2018.

This is what the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources said in his keynote address at the event in June this year:

“Ladies and gentlemen, the Ministry sees this event as one that will assist to increase the capacity of the sector for improved service delivery since it seeks to bring together sector professionals to appraise up-to-date technology, machinery, products and services with a view to enhancing the development of the Ghanaian and the regional economies. I commend the organizers for their past efforts and successes and you the participants also for your persistence. You now have a dedicated Ministry to do the bidding for you.”

Here’s what some exhibitors said after the show:

“Through Water Africa & West Africa Building and Construction 2017 Exhibition we have been able to set up business relationships with government departments such as the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, Ghana Water Company and some consulting companies. Also, the event has enabled us to develop two local agents to represent us and help build our local sales network there. Generally speaking, the Water Africa Exhibition is a simple, direct and effective way to enter the Ghana market.”

“Once again the organisers have provided an excellent platform for both exhibitors and seminar presenters alike. Pulling together so many organisations is challenging and endorses the ACE ability to work at Ministry level whilst also considering the exhibitors, presenters and visitors. We now look forward to 2018.”

“It was my first time to Ghana and I pleased to say that we received an order from a visitor to our stand”.

Participation at the Water Africa & West Africa Building and Construction exhibition in 2018 will ensure that all exhibitors reach the key decision-makers from the Ghanaian Ministries as well as engineers, architects, contractors and consultants, NGOs, investors and developers involved in either or both sectors.

This is a key time in Ghana’s continuing development and ACE Event Management is proud to be able to bring its building and construction and water event back again in 2018.

Woodflow 2018

Melbourne Australia

The Woodflow series is Australasia’s premier technology event run every two years. It provides insights into innovations and new tools being developed and employed by leading forestry, wood products and transport companies.

The objective, with 30% – 40% of delivered log costs being contributed by transport, is to profile the very latest technologies for moving wood from the forest through to the log yard, processing plant, port or market. New initiatives and operating practices being employed to improve planning, logistics & operations within the wood supply chain are also showcased.

The FIEA event is run every two years. It’s run in both Australia and New Zealand. In 2017, the wood harvesting event, HarvestTECH, was sold out. Over 450 logging contractors, forestry managers and key suppliers attended. It was the largest event of its type yet seen in New Zealand. In September 2016, over 250 harvesting contractors, wood transport operators and planners attended FIEA’s Wood Flow Optimisation event.

The 2018 event will be building on the success, momentum and feedback provided by industry over the last two years.

What’s Covered?

Effective tools, models and case studies for collaboration through the wood supply chain Remote sensing and real-time tracking of logs and wood products Innovative systems to integrate planning, operations, harvesting, transport & sales Advances in automated measurement, materials handling, packaging and distribution New innovations around log and wood product handling, trucking, rail and shipping New mobile communications and data transfer technologies for local operations Developments in information technology and data management Impacts and opportunities using robotics, automation, augmented and virtual reality, machine learning, telematics and UAV’s Health and safety initiatives around forestry and wood transport operations Resolving key skills and labour shortages International models adding value to supply chain management 26 – 27 June 2018
