Wood Southern Africa and Timber Times visited the Working with Wood show that was held at the Waterfall Polo Estate in Johannesburg on 31 October and 1 November.

The main sponsor for the Working with Wood show was diversified woodworking product supplier Vermont Sales. Vermont Sales brand manager Greg de Villiers says the show was a good platform for the various brands represented by Vermont Sales to exhibit and demonstrate their product ranges.

Other exhibitors also showed wood-related products such as furniture, finishing products and surfboards. De Villiers stresses that the company wanted to give those who are passionate about wood and woodworking a chance to engage with likeminded groups of people. “The show not only offered a good opportunity for those with shared interests to come together to celebrate their careers and hobbies, but it also provided an essential platform to promote wood products and woodworking to the general public. Vermont Sales’ product ranges were not the only ones on display, other industry roleplayers such as Austro also supported the show by demonstrating their Felder range of machines and Norwood range of portable sawmills,” notes de Villiers

  1. Seem great opportunity indeed. I’m currently collecting seeds from various “bush” trees making craft. I have noticed some of them might actually be used to manufacture chip and Masonite boards and I would in future, like to receive an opportunity to test my theory.

    1. Hello Lucky
I suggest you contact the forest products research organisations, like the Institute for Commercial Forestry Research (ICFR), NCT, and the wood science department at the University of Stellenbosch and the wood technology department at NMMU in George.
